This section highlights a few other engineering research projects that do not conform to the two broader topics of soft robotics and optics. One project consists of a modular 3D printer that was intially designed for NASA, and is currently under review for a patent.
Modularly Expandable 3D Printer (ME3P)
This project was intially brought to the Active Materials and Smart Living Laboratory by NASA. The goal was to create a modular 3D printer that could adapt to high aspect ratio prints. UNLV Sprts Research and Innovation caught wind of this project and became interested for biocompatible prints with high aspect ratios.
Robotic Platform for IR Sensing
This project began as a challenge to create a robotic platform for IR sensing equipment by the Department of Energy for disaster relief. The goal was to create a transformable robot to traverse many terrain types. Two transformable platform concepts were investigated with a successful prototype with a range of 2000 feet and top speed of ~2 m/s.
